Place: OmCulture www.omculture.com

located near the corner of N. 35th and N. Pacific Street, near Gasworks Park in Seattle's Wallingford neighborhood.

Registration: At the door, but please contact me beforehand if you want me to supply a drum for you.

If you're 50 years of age or older and you're curious about hand drumming (e.g., congas and djembes - supplied, or bring your own), this class is just for you! There IS a difference in the way we learn, and in the way our bodies move, over age 50. You will experience many facets of hand drumming at a comfortable pace. These include: feeling rhythm in the body before expressing it on an instrument (stepping, clapping & vocalizing); learning the "blueprint" of rhythm; simple explanations of technique (how to hold the drum, where to put your hands), the use of hand percussion (adding "spice" to your music), some cultural background, and, of course, a few basic beats. We will end by playing a HOT multi-part rhythm from West Africa! Absolutely NO musical background required.

Simone sez: I feel I'm uniquely qualified to teach this class because of my age (68) and experience; I've taught thousands of folks, of every age, level and gender, the joy of drumming for over 20 years.
